So who is to blame for data breaches like the one that happened at Target? And Neiman Marcus? And many others?
The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) and the National Retail Federation (NRF) have started playing the blame game. On January 21 the NRF sent an open letter to Congress – saying banks are continuing use “fraud-prone” magnetic stripe credit cards. The ICBA has responded with a harsh rebuttal – saying merchants have to adopt “security solutions going forward”.
The fact remains that breaches are continuing to occur. Effective security is the bottom line – and that means technology that is less vulnerable (chip-pin cards) and a more robust approach to security controls implementation. What is your organization doing to prevent data breaches?
